Congress MP Rahul Gandhi [Images], who is on a three-day visit to his parliamentary constituency Amethi, was reminded on Wednesday of a promise that was made to the members of a bereaved family here a year ago.

On his second day of the visit, the young leader was reminded that he had promised monetary compensation to the members of the bereaved family a year ago.

On August 20, 2006 eight people of the family were run over by a truck in Muzafirkhana bazaar on the Lucknow-Varanasi highway.

The victims alleged that ''it was the lackadaisical attitude of the middlemen, which was causing the delay.'' Gandhi ordered early disbursement of the amount. The MP was in Muzafirkahana for the inauguration of an advocate hall in the civil court.
