Suspected ULFA militants shot dead one person at Tengakhat in Dibrugarh district in eastern Assam on Monday night while the bodies of two youngsters killed by tribal militants were recovered by the police this morning at Satmile area in Karbi Anglong Hill district.

Police informed that one Bhawani Phukon, resident of Pakhorijania village under Tengakhat police station in Dibrugarh district was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne suspected ULFA militants from a close range killing him on the spot. The person was killed by the ultras on suspicion of being an informer of police.

Meanwhile, police recovered bodies of two youths at Satmile area in Karbi Anglong hill district of Assam on Monday morning. The youths identified as Mangal Baruah and Bhaskar Gogoi were killed last night by suspected militants belonging to United People's Democratic Solidarity, a Karbi tribal militant group.

The slain youths were employees of a contractor engaged in on going construction of Assam University's satellite campus at Satmile in the hill district. The UPDS ultras had earlier demanded money from the contractor who failed to pay up.

The killing of youths triggered public protests in the area and a large number of agitated people blocked the National Highway 39 for several hours today in protests against killing of the two innocent youths by the ultras.
