Assam: Two militants killed in police encounter

Two militants from the outfit All Adivasi National Liberation Army died in an encounter at Hatidandi in Karbi Anglong hill district of Assam on Friday afternoon.

The police said that a team of personnel from the 11th Assam Police Battalion attacked a hideout of AANLA ultras inside the forest near Hatidandi. In the ensuing gun battle, two militants were killed while two others managed to escape. A policeman was also injured in the encounter.

The police team recovered some arms and ammunition, including a mobile phone, from the militants' hideout. The AANLA militants were involved in extortion in the tea gardens of Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts of Assam.
