The Tamil Nadu government has so far not issued any official tsunami warning in the state in the wake of the two massive earthquakes which rocked Indonesia on Wednesday evening.

However, the police are on an alert in all coastal areas, an official source said. In Chennai, the police have been put on high alert in coastal areas, with security being tightened on the Marina beach.

"We have not received any official warning, but have however advised officials in the coastal areas to be alert," the official said. While patrolling has been intensified at the Marina to keep a tab of things, people were, however, being allowed to enter the beach, he added.
