Gujarat: Cop opens fire, kills two colleagues

Two Gujarat state reserved police jawans were killed and six others injured on Monday when their superior and a head constable opened indiscriminate firing at Gadhu village in Junagadh, the police said.

Head constable Mohammed Ismail Ansari ,46, who fled after the incident, was later nabbed from Motibaug, they said. Ansari is currently being interrogated to find out the reasons for which he opened fire on his colleagues.

The incident took place at 8:15 am when the company of SRP (state reserve police) Group 13, Rajkot returned to their base at Gadhu village after duty at Kharwar community's 'Jhund Mela' held nearby. Irked over some matter, the head constable picked up his rifle and opened indiscriminate firing at his colleagues leaving two jawans dead on the spot and six injured. The deceased have been identified as Allahrakha Lanja and Manhar Hamirpara.
