Barely a week after the alleged desecration of a holy book had rocked Allahabad, reports of a similar incident triggered tension in the city on Monday.

"There were reports of alleged desecration of a holy book inside a place of worship in Phoolpur police station area," Allahabad range DIG A K Prasad said.

He said forces were immediately rushed to the area to quell outbreak of violence and heavy deployment of security personnel was in place in Phoolpur and neighbouring Mauaima. No arrests have been made in this connection so far, he added.

Meanwhile, a police sub-inspector has been suspended in connection with the violence by an agitated mob over the alleged desecration of a holy book last week, resulting in clamping of curfew on the Old City. The in-charge of Kareli police station was suspended on the charge of failing to control the violence and laxity, sources said.
