In a twist in the case of a teacher allegedly forcing teenaged girls into prostitution in New Delhi, the police on Thursday arrested the girl who appeared in the TV sting operation as a student.

"We have arrested the woman who appeared on the TV expose posing as a student. She is not a student," Delhi police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.

The girl, whose identity was not revealed, was arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and fabricating false evidence.

The girl had figured in the sting operation as a student who claimed that she had been forced into prostitution by Uma Khurana, a teacher of government-run Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Central Delhi.

The sting operation led to violence in the area and the lady teacher was dismissed from service after being arrested.
