The Assam police have arrested two conduits of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) for detonating the September 1 bomb blast in Guwahati. One person lost his life and 21 injured in the deadly blast at a busy market.

The police said both suspects were unemployed and drug addicts and were used by the ULFA to plant the bomb in lieu of money.

The police said Kamaleswar Das and Joonjyoti Sharma were arrested on Tuesday morning from two different hide-outs. Kamaleswar was arrested from his  uncle's residence at  Kumarikata in Tamulpur near Indo-Bhutan border while Joonjyoti was arrested from his hideout in Dispur Guwahati.

The police said the duo had confessed to have fitted improvised explosive devices with the help of an ULFA militant named Dhiren Das alias Dipak Das alias Bhaiti to an auto which was then parked at Bamunimaidan Railway Colony market in the city.

The blast was carried out at the instruction of ULFA's 709 battalion's senior leader Akash Thapa, the police said. The duo had procured the vehicle used in the blast from one Champak Barman by paying Rs 53,000.

The accused had triggered another blast at Ganeshguri area in Guwahati last month and were planning to carry out blasts in Fancy Bazar and Anthgaon area in the city soon.
