Moderate quake in Kashmir valley

A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook the Kashmir valley on Friday.

The tremor was recorded at 1220 IST in Srinagar [Images] and adjoining areas, a spokesman at the divisional disaster management control room said.

There were no reports of any damage or casualty, he said. The epicenter of the quake was located 35.8 degree north latitude and 76.9 degree east longitude on the Indo-China border of Jammu and Kashmir [Images], the spokesman said.

Kashmir is placed in seismic zone five, making it highly vulnerable to earthquakes.
