Twenty-two people were hospitalised following a suspected gas leakage in a scrapyard in Mapusa town, 10 km away from Panaji, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred late on Tuesday night when work on breaking huge metal barrels was going on in the yard, they said adding, all the injured were being treated at a local private hospital in Mapusa.

The scrapyard borders Karaswada industrial estate, located in the town.
