Election Commission team arrives in Gujarat

An Election Commission team arrived in Gujarat on Thursday on a two-day visit to take stock of preparations after it announced the dates for the two-phase elections in the state.

Chief Elections Commissioner N Gopalaswami and Election Commissioners Navin Chawla and S Y Qureshi will meet representatives of six main political parties later in the day.

The team is likely to meet senior state government officials including Chief Secretary Manjula Subramaniam, Director General of Police P C Pande on Friday.

The team will also address a seminar of district collectors.

This is the second visit of the full Election Commission to the state to review the election preparations.
