Mistaking each other for militants, two Assam Rifles patrols fired on each other killing two personnel and injuring two others in the early hours of Tuesday, official sources said.

Assam Rifles patrols from Kakching Khunou and Pangaltabi in Thoubal district were involved in the firing, the sources said.

The injured were airlifted to the Leimakhong Army hospital, 25 km from Impale.

The bodies were sent to the Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital for post mortem.

Security and police personnel are on stepped up patrol as Tuesday is the 'raising day' of the militant outfit People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak
