The United Jehad Council, an amalgam of 13 Pakistan-based militant groups, on announced its operations will remain suspended in the state for three days beginning October 12 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The ceasefire was announced by a spokesman of the amalgam to local news agencies after a meeting chaired by UJC chairman Syed Salahuddin, who also heads the Hizbul Mujahideen.

All the militant leaders and cadres are hereby directed to follow the ceasefire strictly during the three days, the spokesman said.
Justifying the truce, the spokesman said security forces carry out fake encounters and harass people on one pretext or the other even during auspicious occasions like Eid. Addressing the meeting, Salahuddin said the bilateral dialogue process for resolution of the Kashmir issue had yielded nothing and hopes should not be attached with it for anything in future as well.

Instead of wasting time on the dialogue process with India, it would be prudent to focus on our basic and principle stand on diplomatic, political and militant fronts for realising our goal, he said.Salahuddin also appealed to all separatist groups to set aside differences and work for achieving the goal of self-determination.
