Agni's short range version test-fired October 05, 2007 14:01 IST The short range variant of India's indigenously developed Agni series of ballistic missiles, Agni-I, was test-fired from Wheelers Island off the Orissa coast on Friday. The test-firing, termed as "users trial", was conducted from a mobile launcher from the Integrated Test Range launch complex-4 around 10.38 am, defence sources said. This was the fourth test-firing of the surface-to-surface ballistic missile, which is capable of striking a target up to a distance of 700 km. There were "considerable improvements in its re-entry technology and manoeuvreability" since Agni's first trial was carried out on January 25, 2002 from Wheelers Island, the sources said.
