Leader of Opposition L K Advani on Tuesday night met West Bengal Governor Gopalakrishna Gandhi and urged him to send a report to the Centre on Nandigram recommending invocation of Article 355 or if necessary 356 against the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government.

"We lauded the Governor for rendering a great service to the state and democracy by coming out with a correct and justified statement indicting the state government for its handling of the Nandigram situation," Advani said.

"We requested the Governor to send a detailed report on Nandigram to the Centre urging for invocation of Article 355 directing the state government to take proper action in Nandigram, or if directions were not abided by, apply Article 356 to dismiss the government," Advani told reporters after calling on the Governor at Raj Bhavan.

Earlier, Advani led a nine-member National Democratic Alliance delegation to Nandigram and talked to the people. He also visited temporary shelters for refugees and a hospital and met violence-hit villagers.
