The Central Reserve Police Force on Monday moved into the interior villages of Garchakraberia and Tekhalibazar in troubled Nandigram shortly after their arrival following reports of fresh violence.

Trinamool Congress MLA Sisir Adhikari claimed the CRPF personnel were engaged in shootout with CPI(M) workers in Garchakraberia. Sources in anti-land acquisition Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC), backed by opposition Trinamool Congress, said CRPF personnel entered some villages in the two areas as there was fresh violence in these areas. However, no police confirmation of the incidents was available.

Meanwhile, BUPC member Milan Pradhan said three rape victims of Garchakraberia were admitted to Nandigram hospital on Monday evening. He alleged they were raped when their village was attacked allegedly by CPI(M) activists.
