Three persons including two militants and a civilian were killed in a north Kashmir gunbattle early on Saturday.

A senior police officer said troops of the counterinsurgency Rashtriya Rifles and police surrounded a house in Nillah village in north Kashmir's Baramulla district early on Saturday morning on specific information about the presence of militants.

"The holed up militants were challenged to surrender upon which they fired indiscriminately at the surrounding troops resulting in a sustained gunfight at the end of which two militants were killed," the officer said.

"One woman identified as Nusrat was also killed during the encounter," he said.

"Searches are still continuing in the village," the officer added.
