Bihar's main opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal gave a call for Bihar bandh on Saturday after a NDTV reporter Prakash Singh and cameraman Habib were forcibly held hostage for two hours, attacked and mercilessly beaten by ruling Janata Dal-United legislator Anant Singh and his henchmen in Patna on Thursday.

Anant Singh, a JD-U MLA from Mokama and close aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, already has 21 criminal cases pending against him. And he reportedly continues his illegal activities even now.

Leader of opposition in the Bihar assembly Rabri Devi, wife of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, announced a Bihar bandh on Saturday against the attack on mediapersons.

"All the opposition parties including RJD, Congress, Lok Janshakti Party and Left parties will join the Bihar bandh to expose the Nitish Kumar-led government," Rabri Devi told mediapersons in Patna.

Rabri Devi appealed to mediapersons/journalists all over India to launch a protest against this incident.

"I urge mediapersons across the country to stage protest and call for Bharat bandh to protest against the mindless attack on journalists here," Rabri Devi said.

Rabri Devi proudly claimed that no such incident (attack on mediapersons) was reported during RJD's 15-year rule.

"Not a single mediaperson was attacked like this during our rule, but today mediapersons are being attacked, beaten, abused and threatened," Rabri Devi told rediff.com in Patna.

She said it was not the first incident. Last year another ruling JD-U MLA Sunil Pandey threatened to kill a TV new channel reporter in a five star hotel in Patna for asking a question, but no action was taken against him.

Pandey is another well-known face of the 'bahubali' MLA, who is currently lodged in jail and facing over two dozen criminal cases including murder, kidnapping, extortion and looting.
