At least 13 people, including two women, were killed when suspected pro-Taliban militants attacked a top cleric's residence in northwest Pakistan with rockets and hand grenades early Thursday morning.

The militants attacked the house of Pir Attique Gilani, a cleric and influential tribal elder, in Tank district near the Pak-Afghan border, television channels quoted police in the Northwest Frontier Province as saying.

Those killed included six members of the cleric's family. Two persons were injured in the attack.
