Pranab takes India to the world

Mukherjee had earlier started off his tour with Cyprus.

He called on President Tassos Papadopoulos and the two recalled the traditional long-standing and deep rooted friendship between Cyprus and India, India's consistent support for the territorial integrity of Cyprus as well as the UN Security Council Resolutions relating to the Cyprus problem.

He also met Cyprus Foreign Minister Yiorgos Lillikas. Bilateral relations were discussed in detail in the context of traditional friendship between the two countries and the history of close cooperation and support in the international forum.

Possibilities of Cyprus playing a useful and cooperative role for promoting India-EU relations in political and economic terms were discussed. Cooperation in trade and investment, energy, tourism, pharmaceuticals, IT were discussed including through setting up of joint ventures. Closer and regular consultations between the two Foreign Ministries were also agreed upon.

Three agreements were signed between India and Cyprus -- Agreement on Abolition of Visa Requirement for Diplomatic and Official Passport Holders, Agreement on Combating International Terrorism, Organised Crime and Illicit Drug Trafficking, and Executive Programme on Cultural, Educational and Scientific Cooperation.
