Police recovered 10 kg of explosives and 20 litres of ammonium nitrate from the railway station in Faizabad in the wee hours of Wednesday, hours after serial blasts rocked Gorakhpur district.

The explosives were recovered at around 2 am from the second class waiting room on platform No 1 of the station during a routine search by railway police personnel, sources said.

The nature of explosives was yet to be ascertained, they said adding, a team of experts has rushed from Lucknow to Faizabad to determine the nature of the seized items and also possible motives.

The investigators will also look into whether the recovery from the station has any link with Tuesday's three low intensity blasts in a crowded shopping area of Gorakpur in which five persons were injured.

A state of high alert has been sounded in the district and the adjoining temple-town of Ayodhya in the wake of Tuesday's serial blasts in Gorakhpur.

Security personnel had been deployed in strength near all sensitive places in Faizabad and Ayodhya, sources said.
