The Centre directed the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday night to take special care to maintain peace in Gorakhpur, where five people were injured in three explosions on Tuesday evening.

The Union Home Ministry is in touch with the state government, an MHA official said.

Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta has spoken to the Director General of Police in Lucknow to take stock of the situation, the official said.

Gupta advised the DGP to take adequate steps to see that nothing untoward happens in the wake of the blasts.
