Police on Monday lathicharged Sikh protestors who tried to take out a procession defying prohibitory orders to protest against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's alleged insult to tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh.

At least 10 persons, including Ambala Superintendent of Police Amitabh Dhillon and two constables, were injured in the stone pelting outside Gurdwara Badshah Bagh when about 500 Sikhs, most of them youths, and the police came face to face.

The agitating Sikhs were adamant they would take out a protest march from the gurdwara, but the police disallowed it citing prohibitory orders.

Some vehicles were also damaged during the protest. Meanwhile, Sikhs under the banner of Haryana Akali Dal submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner R P Bhardwaj demanding a ban on Deras in the state, including the Dera Sacha Sauda at Sirsa, the arrest of Sant Gurmeet and the registration of a case against him for his alleged blasphemous act.
