A father-son duo was shot dead allegedly by some Border Security force personnel when they objected to them consuming alcohol near their house, triggering protests from angry locals.

All the four BSF personnel, who were in an inebriated condition, were arrested after the late night incident in Thakurpur village of this Punjab district, senior police officials told PTI.

According to the police, the jawans entered into a heated argument with Shingara Singh, a farmer, when he allegedly objected to them consuming alcohol near his house after which they entered his house and opened fire at him.

They also shot at his son who came to rescue his father. Both of them were rushed to the district civil hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival, the sources added.

As the news spread, angry locals took to the streets and blocked the main Gurdaspur-Pathankot road for nearly three hours demanding the arrest of the BSF personnel. The four personnel were later arrested, police said.

Singh's widow in her statement to the police has alleged that the paramilitary personnel used to consume liquor near her house and tease the women.
