At least 13 passengers of Amritsar-Tatanagar Express were injured when they jumped out of their compartment in panic, following a fire which broke out in an adjacent breakvan on Wednesday night.

The incident took place 10 kms away from Moradabad, between Dalpatpur and Katgarh, at around 2210 hours when the train was passing over a bridge, sources said.

The fire, suspected to have been triggered by friction resulting from chain pulling by some passengers, was controlled within no time, they added.

Divisional Railway Manager, Moradabad, Omkar Singh said seven injured passengers were admitted at the railway hospital here while six others were admitted at the local civil hospital with injuries.

Singh said the train later left for its destination.
