A bill aiming to bring in the country's first ever law against sexual harassment at workplace is likely to be introduced in the monsoon session of Parliament.

"It is not possible at this stage to lay down any time schedule for the introduction of the Bill in Parliament. However, the government is making all efforts to introduce it in the monsoon session," Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury informed Lok Sabha in a written reply to a question.

The Protection of Women Against Sexual Harassment at Workplace Bill 2007 was posted on the website of the WCD Ministry inviting comments on March 31, 2007 and it was also advertised in newspapers.

"A number of comments have been received in response, which are being examined in the Ministry," Chowdhury said.

In the absence of a law to tackle sexual harassment of women at workplace, the Vishaka guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court to deal with the problem have been implemented.
