Suspected United Liberation Front of Asom militants triggered a blast at Anthgaon area in the heart of Guwahati at around 6.30 pm on Wednesday creating panic in the crowded business hub.

Police claimed that no one was injured in the blast that went off inside a garbage dump located in front of Dhanuka Complex in the area.

The bomb planted by suspected ULFA militants damaged a Matiz car and a cycle rickshaw parked nearby.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot even as the area was cordoned off by police and paramilitary force personnel.

Police said other details including the type of explosive used would be ascertained later, while there was strong possibility of the involvement of the banned ULFA militants behind the incident, given that the outfit has been triggering blasts in Guwahati of late.
