EC appoints 4 observers for UP polls

The Election Commission on Tuesday appointed four special observers for the first four phases of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

The observers would ensure effective coordination for free and fair elections in the key state.

Raymond Peter has been appointed to oversee elections in the first phase, N Sivasailam for the second phase, Sudhir Rakesh for the third and Sathyamurthy for the fourth phase, EC sources said.

Elections in Uttar Pradesh would be held in seven phases.
