Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi on Wednesday said the leaders of various political parties had decided to let the issue of Mani Kumar Subba's nationality be decided by the Supreme Court of India.

"It was unanimously decided by the leaders that the correct forum for deciding the issue is either the Election Commission or the courts. Since the matter is already before the Supreme Court, it was decided not to interfere with the judicial process," Dasmunshi told media persons at a press conference.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra had given a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee questioning the nationality of Subba and had asked for a house committee to examine the issue in the light of allegations made by CNN-IBN in its investigative report.

The channel had claimed that Subba was a Nepalese citizen and was a fugitive, who had fled from a Nepalese jail. However, the Congress parliamentarian from Teazpur in Assam has refuted the allegations.
