Congress on Friday scotched reports of forming an alliance with like-minded parties for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

"No such alliance has been formed, but the possibilities are always there," All India Congress Committee general secretary Ashok Gehlot told PTI.

His statement came in the wake of reports that Congress has agreed to form an alliance with the Rashtriya Lok Dal, Jan Morcha Alliance and United Democratic Front to form a Fourth Front in the key state.

The reports quoted UP Congress spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh as saying that the alliance is likely to be announced in a few days.

Gehlot's statement also came amid reports that Jan Morcha leader Raj Babbar had a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi about the alliance.
