Kerala: BJP State Secy gets 4 months in prison

Bharatiya Janata Party Kerala unit general secretary M T Ramesh has been sent to prison after a local court awarded him four months' imprisonment in connection with an agitation led by him when he was the party's youth wing leader in 2003.

The first class judicial magistrate, Santhosh Luka, also sentenced 23 Bharathiya Yuva Morcha activists who participated in the march to the District Medical Office on December 4, 2003 alleging that tribals in Wayanad were being subjected to mass sterilisation by the Health authorities.

Ramesh and others were sent to the sub-jail in Kozhikode last night. BJP leaders said a bail application seeking the release of Ramesh and other BJYM workers would be moved.

The BYM workers were charged with trespassing into the DMO's office, unlawful assembly and destruction of public property.
