Four more militants were killed in the continuing security force operations against militants in the north Kashmir border district of Kupwara.

A defence spokesman in Srinagar said that troops of 21 Rashtriya Rifles on specific information challenged a group of Lashkar-e-Tayiba militants deep inside the Wandarbala forest near Rajwar, 100 km from Srinagar late on Wednesday evening.

"When challenged, the group of militants opened fire on the troops. A sustained gunfight ensued at the end of which all the four LeT militants were killed," the spokesman said.

"The search operation is still continuing. Security forces recovered four AK-47 rifles, ammunition and other stores," the spokesman added.

This was the second such major success for the army and police in the same district where the chief commander of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen was gunned down on Wednesday with another militant of the same outfit.
