Congress leader and parliamentarian Moni Kumar Subba has decided to file a Rs 2 crore defamation suit against television channel CNN-IBN for running an investigative story on him.

V K Sashi Kumar, who coordinated the shooting of the story on the Congress leader, said that the company will, if needed, fight the case in court.

Subba, a Nepalese citizen, has been elected to Parliament thrice. He is alleged to have escaped from the lockup where he was serving a sentence for murdering his cousin.

"We have the relevant documents and will produce the same in the court. Two of our reporters -- Niti Tandon and Deepak Bajpayee worked for three months and travelled widely in Sikkim, Siliguri, Assam and Lakhimpur. We traced the houses and other benami properties. These two really worked hard," Rajdeep Sardesai, managing editor of CNN-IBN, said.

Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra has sought the setting up a committee of Lok Sabha members to decide the fate of the Congress parliamentarian from Tejpur in Assam.
