Mild tension prevailed at Parajor village in Kanpur rural district after a statue of Ambedkar was allegedly damaged, which was swiftly replaced by authorities.

Four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, Chief Development Officer Nand Kishore told PTI.

He said some anti-social elements had damaged the statue at Indalpurwa area of Parajor gram panchayat of Akbarpur in Kanpur rural district on Monday.

Soon after the incident, hundreds of villagers of nearby villages assembled and staged a dharna leading to tension in the area.

Kishore said senior district officials reached the spot soon after the incident and ordered to replace the damaged statue with new one.

Four persons Rajan Yadav, Raj Sharma, Shyam Sundar and Badkau Balmiki of Shyampur village were taken into custody for their suspected involvement in the incident and further interrogation is in progress, he added.
