Alleging that excesses were being committed against its followers, the Dera Sacha Sauda on Thursday held an emergency meeting at its headquarters at Sirsa in Haryana to chalk out its action plan to counter the attempts to terrorise them.

Dera representatives and followers from different states are attending the meeting, an official of the sect told PTI.

After a court in Punjab's Bathinda yesterday issued a conditional arrest warrant against its chief Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, accused of hurting the religious sentiments of Sikhs, the Dera followers held a congregation in Sirsa and asked supporters from all the states to converge there.

The Dera is holding the meeting to take further action to counter alleged excesses on the Dera followers by some anti-social elements, a release from the sect said.

A clash had taken place between some Sikh community members and Dera supporters in a village in Sirsa on Wednesday, leading to tension.

"However, things are normal today. We have deployed additional forces and are keeping a close watch on the situation," Sirsa Deputy Commissioner V Umashankar said.

He said tight security arrangements were also in place around the Dera, whose chief was recently provided with "Z plus" category security cover in view of threats to his life.

The Dera chief is believed to have given a fresh letter of apology for his alleged blasphemous act, Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee officials claimed. The Dera, however, has not confirmed the development.
