Abu Salem's lawyer Ashok Sarogi on Tuesday alleged that a man who identified himself as gangster Ravi Pujari has threatened him on phone for representing the underworld don.

"My wife received a call at around 11.45 am on Tuesday. The man speaking at the other end said he had tried to persuade me in a proper manner (pyar se samajaya tha) not to take up Abu Salem's case. Now he will shoot me dead," Sarogi alleged.

The man who identified himself as Pujari also said it was a shame that being a Hindu, Sarogi was defending Salem.

The call was an international one, Sarogi said adding, he was going to file a complaint with the police in this regard.

Sarogi had received similar threats, allegedly from Pujari's gang, three months ago.

He is defending Salem in nearly all the cases for which the latter was extradited from Portugal in 2005.
