The National Democratic Alliance on Tuesday ruled out consensus on the presidential candidate and claimed it was yet to take a decision on the matter.

"The prevailing circumstances do not indicate that a consensus on a presidential candidate could be arrived at," NDA convenor George Fernandes [Images] told reporters in Bhopal.

To a query, he said the NDA is yet to decide on a candidate and this will be done after mutual discussion.

On India-China relations, the former defence minister said he was skeptical whether the ties could be sustained for long.

"We are not aware of what China wants. Recent events in the north-east suggest that it wants to extend its borders," Fernandes said.

When he visited the neighbouring country as a Union minister, it had expressed its willingness to improve relations as it wanted to "become the number one country in the world by 2016," he said.
