A suspected Lashkar-e-Tayiba militant was arrested in Delhi on Tuesday with 1.5 kg of RDX, police said and claimed to have foiled a terrorist bid to carry out deadly strikes.

Mukhtiar Ahmed Khan, a resident of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir [Images], was arrested by special cell sleuths on the basis of a tip off about his movements, a senior police official told PTI.

About 1.5 kg of RDX, two detonators and a timer were recovered from Khan, who was arrested from Azadpur fruit market at around 5 pm, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar said.

Khan had arrived in Delhi from Jammu and Kashmir on Monday and was planning to catch the Delhi-Lahore bus on Wednesday.

Police sources said they suspect he was a carrier, but his exact plan of action is yet to be known.

"His interrogation is on to find out his mission," Kumar said.

Police had in April arrested three Lashkar militants, including a Pakistani, from the popular shopping arcade Dilli Haat with a huge quantity of explosives including 2 kg of RDX and two hand grenades.
