The Supreme Court on Monday allowed the Gujarat government to file an appeal directly before it against a trial court order refusing to grant police custody of a senior police officer N K Amin for his alleged involvement in the conspiracy relating to Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

The relatives of Shorabuddin and Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam, who is assisting the court as an amicus curie, questioned the chargesheet filed by the Gujarat government, claiming that proper investigation was not done and there are several loopholes left to save the accused.

A bench headed by Justice Tarun Chatterjee posted the matter for further hearing on August 6.
