As the news of United Progresiive Alliance-Left candidate Pratibha Patil winning the presidential poll started trickling in, Congress party workers and her relatives who had gathered in large numbers at her South Avenue residence began celebrating her victory.

Distributing sweets to one and all, they were seen dancing in joy and ignoring the rains.

Senior Congress leaders including Janardhan Dwivedi, Suresh Pachauri and Harshvardhan Patil were among the first to visit Pratibha's residence and congratulate her.

P D T Achary, Lok Sabha secertary general and returning officer, who was accompanied by Pratibha's polling agent Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, handed over the certificate of her election to the highest office of the country.
