The acquittal of underworld don Abu Salem's companion Monica Bedi in a fake passport case has been challenged in a court in Bhopal.

The prosecution filed a criminal appeal before District and Sessions Judge Renu Sharma on Thursday against Chief Judicial Magistrate court's decision to acquit Monica on the basis of lack of evidence.

The judge has fixed next date of hearing on August 8.

Monica, Salem, his wife Sameera Jumani and two others were charged with procuring the passport on basis of forged documents in 2000.

The Bollywood starlet and another accused were acquitted by CJM Ajay Shrivastava on July 16.
