Gujarat encounter: Chargesheet against 13 cops
July 16, 2007 13:38 IST
The Gujarat CID on Monday filed a chargesheet against 13 police officials, including DIG D G Vanzara, before the metropolitan court in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.
The over 700-page chargesheet was filed in a sealed envelope in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate K J Upadhyay.
None of the accused were present in the court when the chargesheet was filed.
The Gujarat CID began probe into the Sohrabuddin encounter case at the behest of the Supreme Court after the victim's brother filed an application accusing the Gujarat police of staging the encounter and terming him as a Lashkar-e-Tayiba terrorist.
In the course of the investigation, the CID arrested Vanzara, who headed the Sohrabuddin operation and two other senior IPS officers, including one from Rajasthan.
Some other lower-ranked officials of the Gujarat Anti- Terrorist Squad and Rajasthan Special Task Force were also arrested subsequently.
