The Supreme Court on Thursday sought an explanation from the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh as to under what law gunmen facilities were provided to hundreds of individuals with 'questionable credentials'.

A Bench of Justice S B Sinha and Justice Markandeya Katju refused to stay the Allahabad High Court order, which had directed withdrawal of security cover to such persons.
