IAF fighter crashes in Madhya Pradesh

A Mirage-2000 fighter aircraft of Indian Air Force, believed to be on a routine sortie, crashed at Baragaon, nearly 60 km from Morena on Wednesday night, police said.

While the fate of the pilot could not be immediately ascertained, there was no loss of life or property on the ground as the plane crashed in a field outside the village, Superintendent of Police Hari Singh Yadav and Gwalior Collector Rakesh Srivastav said.

The aircraft caught fire immediately after crashing, Yadav said adding, village sarpanch Ranbir Singh informed the police about the incident.

The aircraft is understood to have taken off from a base in Gwalior.
