Patna: Court orders search for missing women and children

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna | January 08, 2007 16:18 IST

The Patna High Court on Monday ordered Bihar government to search for the missing 143 children and 581 women in the state and submit a report in this connection within six weeks.

The court order came during hearing of a public interest litigation case on the abductions of children, business and professionals.

Officials sources in the court told rediff.com that court took the case of missing children and women seriously and directed the state government to immediately search them and submit a report to it.

According to state government own affidavit submitted to the court, 143 children and 581 women were missing across the state. There is no information about their whereabouts.

Police officials admit that most of the missing children and women were either abducted, killed or had not returned home in the last five years.
