The second phase of assembly polls in Manipur has been advanced by a day and would be held on February 14 because of a local festival, the Election Commission announced on Friday.

A change of date for the second phase was made following requests from political parties in view of the festival. As per the earlier schedule, polling in 29 constituencies in the phase was to be held on February 15.

"The Commission has considered the requests and decided to change the date of poll in 29 assembly constituencies from February 15 to February 14," an EC press note said.

However, there would be no change in the dates of notification, last date of nominations, scrutiny and the last date for withdrawal of candidature, it said.

The 60-member assembly in the state would go to polls in three phases -- February 8, 14 and 23.
