A team of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force is camping in Meerut as part of investigations into the Samjhauta Express blasts and is seeking to trace the manufacturer and seller of the suitcase used by terrorists in the tragedy.

The explosives used in the blasts were planted in suitcases.

The STF is enquiring if the suitcases used by the ultras were purchased from the Meerut market, police sources said.

Suitcases of a particular variety, used in the blasts, are said to be available in the Meerut market.

The team has requested shopkeepers to inform it if they have any information regarding the purchase of suitcases.

The team earlier conducted inquiry in various western Uttar Pradesh towns including Deoband, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Baghpat.

About 70 passengers travelling in the Samjhauta Express were killed in the explosions on February 18.
