For those who loved the novel The God of Small Things -- and there are a great many who do -- this should come as fabulous news. A decade after winning the Booker Prize for her debut work, and years after concentrating on social and environmental causes, author Arundhati Roy intends to take another shot at fiction. 

Readers now used to a lot of her non-fiction -- including The Algebra of Infinite Justice and An Ordinary Person's Guide to Empire -- can now prepare for a possible return to form made richer by what Roy has experienced since winning her award. 

Speculation on what the novel will focus on has already begun. 45-year-old Roy has spoken about the need to go to a different place. She has talked about spending a lot of time in Kashmir, and mentioned a desire to move beyond political writing.
