J&K fake encounter case: 3 more arrested

February 08, 2007 17:22 IST

Three more policemen, all constables, were arrested on Thursday in connection with alleged killing of carpenter Abdul Rehman Paddar in a fake encounter staged by the Special Operations Group of the police.

The three were posted with SOG (Ganderbal), DIG Farooq Ahmed, head of the Special Investigation Team probing the alleged fake killings in Kashmir valley, told PTI in Srinagar.

With these arrests, the number of persons taken into custody in connection with the Paddar case had gone up to nine, including SSP H R Parihar and his Deputy Bahadur Ram.

The SIT is probing the alleged killing of five innocents in fake gunbattles by SOG in 2006. Five bodies, including that of the carpenter, had been exhumed so far.

Though the bodies had been recognised by relatives, the SIT had taken DNA samples to establish their identity.
