Those majestic steam engines

February 05, 2007
The Fairy Queen, built in 1855, is the world's oldest steam locomotive in regular operation, plying between New Delhi to Alwar in India.

Though an engine called the 1831-built John Bull is the oldest operable steam locomotive in existence currently, it is not in regular operation.

The Rajasthan government, in order to boost tourism, re-introduced the Fairy Queen in 2004 to lug a deluxe train in order to boost tourism in the area.

The Fairy Queen is now run on the lines of the world famous luxury train Palace of Wheels.
